Why do people with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have a hard time starting their own business?
Well the most obvious is that they become easily distracted. Without another person working with them to keep them focused on the task, it takes much too long to get things done.
Because of this, results are poor, which causes them to lose interest. They turn their attention to something else and things start to spiral down from there.
Arial;">Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD) are not lazy. They just don't focus long on tasks that aren't very interesting. In the course of the day they may get lots of things done, it just might not be the most important or the things that they planned to do when they started.
I could find you a list of successful business men and woman with ADD. Few if any of them started a business from scratch and alone. They had someone there to give them a push or get things done for them. They had either a partner or took over an established business.
Not all of us are lucky enough to take over the family business or have money to buy a franchise.
So what can you do about it. One thing is find a partner who understands your ADD and what you bring to the business in knowledge, and creativity. Also that you need someone who can keep an organized routine and work place. You may need a personal assistant to follow through on all the little tasks that would otherwise get put off too later, and later, tomorrow, by Friday, next week, or finally when someone complains.
